Roy Mobeck, of Chicago, Illinois, began bicycle racing as an amateur in the late 1910s. At a meet in Newark, New Jersey, in 1922, Mobeck set the American amateur 1-mile track competition record. This trophy commemorates the cyclist and his time of 1 minute 55 seconds. Soon after, Mobeck turned professional.
