In 1892, General Electric acquired the small firm where Charles Steinmetz worked as a promising young electrical engineer. Steinmetz quickly made a name for himself at the company, developing influential theories and conducting breakthrough experiments. He also made friends. Here, Steinmetz reclines (at center, in a cap) with colleagues during a company picnic that coincided with a visit from his sister, Clara.
