Young Man Wearing a Uniform, Possibly a Band Musician, circa 1877

01

Artifact Overview

Cartes-de-visite were given to family and friends to help them remember their loved ones. This portrait, taken at the studio of James Landy in Cincinnati, Ohio, shows a young unidentified man in a uniform. The braid suggests he may have served in a military band. Whatever his vocation, he was proud enough to have his photograph taken while wearing the coat.
