Hugh J. Knerr served as Chief of Staff to the General Headquarters Air Force. His experiences with military aviation informed his 1941 book The Student Pilot's Training Primer. Knerr's book was unusual at the time because, in addition to providing flight instruction, it prepared students for the mental and psychological efforts required of pilots.
