Tourists at Daytona Beach, Florida, circa 1960

01

Artifact Overview

Daytona Beach, Florida, is celebrated for two things: its beautiful beach and auto racing. In fact, the beach attracted racers -- they used it first for land speed runs and then for stock car events. These tourists are using the beach for more leisurely pursuits. Note the 10-mph speed limit -- racing moved to nearby Daytona International Speedway in 1959.
