This image shows naturalist John Burroughs (1837-1921) near his birthplace of Roxbury, New York. He is leaning against a large boulder known as Boyhood Rock--where the young Burroughs once played. Located in the woods near Woodchuck Lodge, a house built by his brother Curtis and where Burroughs would later spend his summers, the stone now marks Burroughs's grave.
