Artifact Overview
In November 2008, Democrat Barack Obama defeated Republican John McCain to become the 44th President of the United States. After the election, the optimistic campaign chant "Yes We Can" -- shouted at Obama rallies -- morphed into "Yes We Did." These slogans reflected the campaign themes of "Hope" and "Change" that brought about the election of America's first African American president.
