Artifact Overview
Frederic and Charles Fisher formed Fisher Body in Detroit in 1908. Within ten years, their company built more than 350,000 car bodies annually for various automakers. General Motors purchased a 60 percent stake in Fisher Body in 1919, and in 1926 it became GM's Fisher Body Division. For decades, the "Body by Fisher" logo appeared on GM cars.
