Barney Oldfield leans into his streamlined race car, the Miller "Golden Submarine," at Ascot Speedway in 1917. To his right is Hollywood film star Douglas Fairbanks. Oldfield achieved great success on the race track, and his flamboyant personality made him a national celebrity. He retired from racing soon after this photograph was taken, but continued making public appearances and acting in movies.
