HANDWRITTEN NOTE IN INK:
Detroit Nov 8th 1864 / Election day. May we put / in Abraham Lincoln. / If we had any doubts / about the "Right" of putting down / the Southern rebellion, the reading / of this horrible "Record" must dispel / them. We are purifying our Country / by exterminating these wretches & / oh! can it be possible that these / dreadful wretches are "Americans" / and that we have let them live so long in it?- / God bless our dear / noble dead & the living soldiers / that have fought and are still / fighting to put them down & / subjugate them - Talk about / peace with such brutes?- / Never, never, never - till the / blood of these poor slain is / avenged - God is just & will / punish their cruelty, if not in / this world in another - I. G. Duffield
