Artifact Overview

A motor tester combined several different engine diagnostic instruments into a single unit. It was used to identify problems with ignition and electrical systems, vacuum pressure, engine speed (crankshaft revolutions per minute), and emissions. Racing driver Bobby Unser used this Sun motor tester and its accessories at the Unser garage in Albuquerque, New Mexico, early in his career.
