The eighteenth Indianapolis 500 took place on May 30, 1930. Billy Arnold, who earned the pole position with an average speed of 113.268 miles per hour, won the race after leading all but the first two of its 200 laps. Arnold also competed in the 1931 and 1932 races but got injured each time. He retired after the latter race.
