The twenty-sixth running of the Indianapolis 500 took place on May 30, 1938. North Dakota-born Floyd Roberts, who won the pole position with a speed of 125.681 miles per hour, also claimed victory in the race. It was Roberts's only win in his five Indy 500 appearances between 1935 and 1939.
