Fontainebleau Motor Hotel Swizzle Sticks, 1955-1975

01

Artifact Overview

Faced with competition, some hotels became more motel-like, offering free parking, a more relaxed atmosphere, and a new "motor hotel" designation. The Fontainebleau Motor Hotel, which opened on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans in 1957, was deemed "the South's largest and finest motor hotel." It boasted 494 "exquisitely furnished rooms and suites" and 3 swimming pools.
