Young Boy with U.S. Army Personnel and Jeeps, France, 1945

Artifact Overview

Designed for scouting work, the jeep proved itself capable of much more during World War II. Soldiers used it to tow artillery, carry the wounded, and deliver ammunition. When fitted with a machine gun, the jeep became a weapon itself. This photograph shows soldiers of the U.S. Army's 20th Armored Division on their way to Metz, France, in 1945.
