From 1895 to 1924, the Detroit Publishing Company was one of the major image publishers in the world. The company had a wide-ranging stock of original photographs, including this image of San Francisco's Hearst Building. Before a fire following the city's 1906 earthquake destroyed the building, it was the home of William Randolph Hearst's newspaper, the San Francisco Examiner.
