Released by Columbia Pictures in 1969, Easy Rider follows two biker-smugglers, played by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans. The movie, directed by Hopper, is widely regarded as a landmark in American counterculture and an early example of the 1970s New Hollywood movement, in which filmmakers took greater creative control from studios.
