Artifact Overview

The award-winning but controversial Heidelberg Project, begun in 1986, is artist Tyree Guyton's attempt to creatively fight back against the abandonment that scarred his boyhood neighborhood, just east of downtown Detroit. This poster illustrates the colorful and creative ways in which art can both draw the public's attention to under-resourced communities and enrich the lives of local residents.
