Crowd at Dedication of Tri-Level Highway Overpass, Willow Run, Michigan, 1942
01
Artifact Overview
Willow Run, built by Ford Motor Company to mass produce B-24 bombers during World War II, was more than 20 miles from Detroit. Workers rapidly constructed a new expressway, with state-of-the-art grade separations, to connect the plant with existing roads. Crowds celebrated the highway's completion -- one of many urgent wartime defense preparations -- at this dedication ceremony in 1942.
