Typed on paper sheet affixed to back of image: FORT LARAMIE, was the meeting place where the Mormon Trail joined the/ Oregon Trail on the south side of the North Platte. Built in 1834 for a / fur trading post it was bought in 1849 by the United States for Military / post, figuring prominently in the Indian affairs of that region.
