By the late 1800s, railroads connected Americans to tourist destinations across the country. Large hotels often maintained stagecoaches to transport vacationers to and from local railroad stations. This coach is headed to Danville Junction, an interchange for the Maine Central and Grand Trunk Railways in Poland Spring, Maine -- where visitors enjoyed scenic mountain vistas and a famous mineral spring.
