A United States Postal Service uniform was instantly recognizable to patrons anticipating mail. It implies that the wearer is a trustworthy government employee. Designed for comfort and function, the uniform consisted of a jacket, trousers and an eight-point cap -- made with a woven cane band for ventilation. Herbert Goltry of Allen Park, Michigan, wore this uniform cap as a U. S. postal carrier.
