Recipe Booklet, "The Granite Iron Ware Cook Book," St. Louis Stamping Co., 1887

01

Artifact Overview

When enamel-coated ironware was introduced in 1874, manufacturers marketed its durability and handsome mottled gray surface--the origin of its common name, "graniteware." Graniteware was also more lightweight than cast iron and would not rust or corrode, like tinware. The St. Louis Stamping Company published this cookbook in 1887 to help promote its line of granite cookware.
