Per the terms of their contract with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, Wilbur and Orville Wright traveled to Fort Myer, Virginia, in October 1909 to train three Army officers to fly. Lieutenants Frank P. Lahm, Frederick E. Humphreys, and Benjamin D. Foulois received their first lessons under the Wrights' careful guidance.
