In time for the 25th anniversary of the Wrights' pioneering flight, Congress established the Wright Brothers National Memorial in the North Carolina dunes where the brothers piloted the Wright Flyer in 1903. In 1928, the cornerstone was placed for a 60-foot memorial tower atop Big Kill Devil Hill. The finished tower was dedicated in 1932 at a ceremony attended by Orville Wright.
