Artifact Overview

During the First World War, the US government recruited celebrities to help sell Liberty Bonds to finance the war effort. Among them was Austrian-born opera singer Fritzi Scheff (1879-1954). She made her American debut in 1901 and became a muse of composer Victor Herbert. Scheff later starred in various films and performed on Vaudeville, broadening her audience appeal.
