Fort Yellowstone, Yellowstone Park, 1904-1905
01
Artifact Overview
Yellowstone National Park, established 1872, was America's first national park. Initial lack of regulations led to poaching and vandalism until, finally, Washington, D.C., administrators took notice. From 1886 until the National Park Service was established in 1916, members of the U.S. Army came to patrol and protect the park. In 1891, they established this permanent post, named Fort Yellowstone.
