Paint Pots, Yellowstone Lake, Yellowstone Park, 1905-1906
01
Artifact Overview
Yellowstone National Park, established 1872, was America's first national park. This small geyser basin, located along the edge of Yellowstone Lake, consists of a stone mantle riddled with hot springs. With a continuous bubbling-up of mud, the springs resemble vast boiling pots of paint--thus, the name given to this feature.
