Artifact Overview

Racing driver Lyn St. James's longtime association with Ford Motor Company began soon after she turned pro. Seeing Ford specifically target female car buyers in its advertisements, St. James wrote a letter to the company that pointed out the marketing opportunity in sponsoring her racing efforts. The gambit worked and Ford signed on as a sponsor in 1981.
