America Online CD-ROM, 2001

Artifact Overview
AOL installation discs were found in mail circulars, magazines, at retail checkouts--even inside cereal boxes. At a time when online access was billed by the hour, these discs enticed people with a trial period. While AOL itself provided access to a growing digital community, the proliferation of these discs led to a labelled of "junk mail" and environmental nuisance.
