Margaret Skillman Clayton (1803-1894) recounts her life as a minister's wife in this 1883 hand-written autobiography. Margaret was born in New Jersey and became a school teacher before marrying Reverend Joshua Anderson Clayton in 1826. The couple had several children and moved often--Rev. Clayton served several churches in New York and later in Michigan. Margaret's personal narrative chronicles her family's journey in 19th-century America.
