Artifact Overview

From the beginning of the movie business, Americans wanted to know about the movies and their stars. In 1911, after a flood of inquiries, J. Stuart Blackton, head of Vitagraph Studios, helped to organize the first movie fan magazine -- Motion Picture Story Magazine. The magazine -- later renamed Motion Picture Magazine -- provided fans with stories about film plots and glamorous illustrations of film stars.
