Pickup trucks were seen as workhorses in the 1930s, so manufacturers offered only a few practical options. In 1938, a Ford customer might choose to improve a new pickup with a heavy-duty suspension, a windshield defroster, turn signals, vacuum-powered windshield wipers, or a locking fuel cap. The optional radio was the most extravagant thing available.
