Official Program of Indianapolis 500 Race, May 30, 1961

01

Artifact Overview

In 1961, the Indianapolis 500 celebrated the 50th anniversary of its first running. Eddie Sachs and A.J. Foyt battled for the lead for much of the race, but a late pit stop by Sachs to replace a worn tire gave Foyt the opening he needed to take the checkered flag. It was the first of Foyt's four Indy 500 victories.
