Artifact Overview

Clara Steinmetz (1857-1940) grew up in Breslau, Germany, with several siblings, including her younger brother Charles. In 1889, Charles moved to the United States and began an influential career in electrical engineering. Clara, a poet and painter, followed sometime around 1897. The siblings remained close, visiting one another and corresponding regularly until Charles' death in 1923.
