Electrical engineer Charles Steinmetz developed influential theories and conducted breakthrough experiments at General Electric. The press portrayed Steinmetz as a scientific "wizard," sensationalizing his work for popular audiences. General Electric welcomed the publicity and in 1922, at the height of his popularity, tapped Steinmetz to host famed wireless communication pioneer Guglielmo Marconi during a visit to the company's Schenectady facilities.
