Ford GT Construction, Testing and Development, December 1964-February 1965

Artifact Overview

Ford created all-new GT race cars to challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After disappointing results with the company's Britain-based Advanced Vehicles Facility, Ford shifted racing responsibilities to Carroll Shelby in California. His Shelby American team reworked the cars and Ford won Le Mans with a GT40 Mark II in 1966, and with a Mark IV in 1967.
