Artifact Overview

Gene Bordinat, who led Ford Motor Company's design efforts from 1961-1980, designed the 1963 Cougar II concept car. It featured a fiberglass body with a fastback roof, a 260-cubic-inch V-8 engine, and stylish pop-up headlights. While the Cougar II never made it into production, the show car survived and was acquired by the Detroit Historical Society in 1981.
