Edsel Ford at "Jalopy Day," Ford Exhibit Building, California Pacific International Exposition, August 1935

01

Artifact Overview

Take two mechanically inclined boys and a bunch of spare Ford parts and you may soon have a running automobile. Elmer Logan and Dick Nicholson built a vehicle for a "jalopy" contest at the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego. Their entry may not have been pretty, but Edsel Ford was impressed with the boys' determination and ability.
