South African Desire Wilson won her first races, in micro-midget cars, at age five. She moved to Great Britain and competed in Formula One. With her victory at the British Aurora Championship at Brands Hatch in 1980, Wilson became the first woman to win an F1 race of any kind. She later competed in endurance races before retiring in 1997.
