George "Birdie" Tebbetts played on the Detroit Tigers as a catcher from 1936 to 1947, with a three-year pause for military service during World War II. He later managed teams in Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Cleveland. In 1939, Tebbetts traveled to Grayling, Michigan, about 200 miles north of Detroit, and posed with the Grayling Winter Sports Queen and a 1939 Mercury sedan.
