Artifact Overview

Austin Curtis, Jr., was a chemist who assisted George Washington Carver at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. After Carver's death in 1943, Curtis worked with Tuskegee to establish the George Washington Carver Research Foundation and the Carver Museum. A year later, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, and organized Curtis Laboratories that created products from natural and organic sources.
