Ford Motor Company opened its plant at Cherry Hill, Michigan, in 1944. The factory's employees -- many of whom were veterans disabled in World War II -- manufactured radiator petcocks and ignition locks for Ford vehicles. An on-site dormitory provided room and board for about 20 residents. The Cherry Hill plant closed in 1945, and most employees were transferred to other Ford facilities.
