Jerry Titus studied trumpet at Juilliard before he began writing about cars in the mid-1950s. He started racing in 1960, and he earned a Trans-Am championship in 1967 and a class win at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1969. Titus died following a crash during pre-race practice in 1970. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2010.
