Atwater Kent was once the leading radio producer in the world. Initially selling automobile ignition systems, the company shifted its focus towards high-end radios in 1922. They became a fixture in American living rooms; furniture manufacturers created fine wooden console cabinets matching the quality components. Despite payment plan options, slow Depression-era sales forced Atwater Kent to close in 1936.
