Artifact Overview
Aviation enthusiast Baron Ehrenfried Gunther von Huenefeld organized the first successful nonstop east-to-west flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Together with crewmates Hermann Kohl and James Fitzmaurice, he made the historic flight aboard the Junkers W33 airplane Bremen on April 12-13, 1928. Troubled by poor health throughout his life, Huenefeld passed away at age 36 -- just ten months after the triumph.
