The United States Olympic Team Trials for track and field were held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from June 16-24, 1984. Mary Decker, the United States' premier middle-distance runner, dominated the 3000 meters race, but was upset in the 1500 meters event. More than a month later, Decker would compete in the same stadium at the 23rd Olympiad.
