Trammel Hook
01
Artifact Overview
Cooks preparing the day's meals in a fireplace hearth used adjustable trammels to hang iron pots and kettles over the fire. A hole and peg trammel allow the cook to raise or lower the pot above the heat--controlling the cooking temperature. This section of an incomplete trammel contains the holes where a hooked iron rod (peg) was inserted.
