This item comes from the collection of Richard J. S. Gutman, the leading expert on American diners, which was amassed in the course of a thesis, four books, numerous articles, major exhibitions, restorations, and other consulting projects. Joseph Swingle, who opened this diner in Middlesex, New Jersey, in 1953, had been a salesman for Jerry O'Mahony, a major diner manufacturer.
