Artifact Overview

Andrew J. Pierce formed the Pierce Engine Company in Racine, Wisconsin, and manufactured stationary engines and marine engines. The company entered the automobile market in 1904 with its one-cylinder Pierce-Racine runabout. Two- and four-cylinder cars soon joined the lineup, and total auto production was somewhere above 2,000 vehicles before Pierce-Racine was acquired by tractor manufacturer Case in 1910.
